long weekend...

The long weekend has finally arrived, and with what looks to be perfectly sunny skies! I love when that works out for the weekend... Spending time with my boyfriend (hopefully getting out for a picnic!) and then headed to the farmer's market with a friend on Saturday. I'm so looking forward to this time off... and then it's off to the new office on Monday! I'll probably pop by on Friday but till then... have a great week everyone! And thanks for stopping by too...

the skinny belt...

I think i'm in need of a pretty, neutral sundress and a skinny, leather belt. Love them with that deep orange hue and weathered look...plus, i'm all for defining the waist!

crisp whites...

Crisp, clean, and perfectly white... I always come across the best white shirts in magazines or online but never in-store... why is it that! I suppose next time I see something cute online i'll just have to get it... what else is there to do, right? :)

It's a pretty good day too, as it's officially Friday for me. Thursday is a holiday here and I have Friday off since work is making the big move to a brand new office... it's a little bit of a drive now (as opposed to across the street), but i'm really looking forward to the brand new space (and the extra long weekend!)... hope your week is going well so far!

soft focus...

Lately i've really been admiring photos with a soft blur or a slight out of focus feel, whether it's intentional or a by-product of scanning, it all looks so dreamy and romantic... this editorial in particular!

beautifully breezy...

Don't you just love sunrooms? My grama has an enclosed room like this at the back of her house. It's not as glamorous of course, but very italian with an outdoor kitchen. It adds such a great extra space to the house... a place to relax and hang out, or an extra room to have people over for a party, or even just a spot to hide in the shade on a super hot day. I particularly love this room though, the windows are amazing (again with gorgeous window panes) and the couches look super cosy... ahh to be so lucky... it's such a pretty space...

petit purse...

Lately I've been noticing a lot of cute bags on the smaller side, which comes as sort of a surprise after what seems like years of giant, over-sized bags! Beside the classic Chanel bag though, i've yet to see a few smaller ones I actually admire, until discovering these ones the other day... I love the first! Would you trade in your bigger bag for a smaller scale purse? I have one right in the middle that's perfect for now (plus my boyfriend gave it to me and I love it!)... the smaller the more organized, right?

monday morning, outdoor dining...

Good morning! Monday has arrived again, but i'm finding myself dreaming away of a good cup of coffee at a chic little café... always in Paris of course, as i'd probably be off to check out this gorgeous restaurant at the new flagship Ralph Lauren store. Isn't it just beautiful? A perfect mix of parisian chic and preppy stripes. I love that shade of blue too. Imagine a leisurely breakfast here? I wonder if they do brunch?

lazy weekend...

I am so excited for this weekend as I don't really have much going on this time around. No driving here and there or huge errands to do, so i'm super happy I just get to relax and hang out with some girlfriends on Sunday! Aren't those kinds of lazy weekends just great? Maybe i'll finally get caught up on some reading i've been meaning to do... I purchased the book Entre Nous: A Women's Guide to Finding Her Inner French Girl quite some time ago when I was in L.A., and now I can finally get into it... And speaking of getting caught up on reading, we have a winner for the Summer at Tiffany giveaway...

Congrats Gaia of modHello! I will be in touch soon. And thank you everyone who entered!

I may be back a little later but in the meantime, here's some of this week's lovely links (quite the collection this week)...

A wonderful interview with a fav new artist!

Camp to Glamp - Glastonbury Voted the Smelliest Festival!!

Festivals are fast approaching and with many groups opting to go ‘glamping’, festival fumes are out of the window and fragrant fans are top of the bill.
A poll of 3,000 festival goers revealed that Glastonbury is the worst smelling gig in the festival calendar according to a survey commissioned by The Perfume Shop.
More than 78 per cent of people who have attended Glastonbury named the toilets as the worst smell, while another 35 per cent found fellow campers body odour less than fragrant. Another 30 per cent struggle with the smell of the rubbish created by the 170,000 music fans.

Second place went to the Reading Festival, where 16 per cent of people admitted they didn’t wash at all over the three-day event. Researchers found that the average festival fan washes just twice during their stay, team this with 35 per cent of people disgusted by the body odour from fellow festival-goers and you have a number of unhappy campers!
More than one in five also wear the same clothes for the entire duration of the festival, with more than one in ten not bothering to use any deodorant – instead, 54 per cent rely on body spray or perfume to mask the smell.

Many campers look for a quick fix, with 38 per cent of those simply using baby wipes to freshen up and more than 15 per cent of people buying a fragrance especially to use at the festival. The new glamping trend has resulted in a mini beauty regime that is both fabulous and festival friendly. The Perfume Shop’s Festival Travalo is the perfect marriage between style and substance, the flower power patterned portable pocket perfume atomizer packs a punch with aircraft grade aluminim and handy neck strap as well as 50 sprays of your favourite scent. The Festival Travalo is available mid-July.

A spokesperson from The Perfume Shop, which carried out the study said; “Everyone knows that festivals are the perfect place to let your hair down but often day-to-day grooming goes amiss. Glastonbury is particularly notorious for its bad smells from festival-goers who go days without washing. With so many people crowded into a small area, it’s inevitable that there are going to be some less-than-pleasant smells lingering, especially if you get lucky and the sun puts in an appearance. But I’m sure many fans would say the festival wouldn’t be the same without the bad smells. However, today’s ‘I can have everything’ mentality means campers can be both glamorous and grunge all at once.
The Perfume Shop Festival Travalo is the perfect accessory for providing your favourite fragrance on the go without the worry of losing a full bottle or taking up precious pace.”
Heavy metal extravaganza Download took third place in the smelliest festival poll, with more than one in ten admitting to not bothering with deodorant. Dance event Creamfields and the Isle of Wight festival completed the top five.

The Big Chill was named as the cleanest and nicest smelling event of the year with just 21 per cent complaining about the rubbish. More than a quarter of people who have experienced the event also reckon it has the best showers and toilets of all the UK festivals. Second place went to Bestival, followed by the O2 Wireless Festival, V-Fest and Global Gathering. However, two thirds say the bad smells wouldn’t ever put them off going to a music festival, with half believing the odours help the atmosphere at the event.

le petit hameau...

" Rousseau says, if we assume man has been corrupted by an artificial civilization,
what is the natural state? The state of the nature from which he has been removed?
Imagine, wandering up and down the forest, without industry, without speech,
and without home…" Marie Antoinette (the film)

I'm sure I've mentioned this before but one my absolute favourite movies is Marie Antoinette. Not just because it's absolutely gorgeous (that's a given), but because her life truly fascinates me. I find it so hard to believe how an entire kingdom could put their faith and dependency on a couple of teenagers and expect things to run smoothly. Of course, it was a whole different era, but still... it's no wonder all she wanted to do was party and get away from it all! Wouldn't you?

What I love best about the movie though are the scenes at her little country getaway tucked away in the gardens of Versailles. It's seriously breathtaking... such a gorgeous little place where flowers grow wild, farm animals roam free, and crops grow sweetly all in a row. It just seems like the perfect place to enjoy nature and be totally at peace with yourself... birds singing, laying in the grass, floating silently along the water in a little white rowboat... just meerly watching these scenes makes you feel all tranquil inside, I can only imagine what it's like to actually be there in person. One of these days though I will make it back to France and Versailles is at the top of my list. From what I hear you could spend a few days there, and there's nothing wrong with that!

In the meantime i'd settle for the chicest of country leisure – a picnic in the grass wearing a light cotton dress... something "natural" as Marie described it. With a gauzy white tent blowing in the breeze, candlelit chandeliers, elegant furniture and beautiful porcelain dishes, I can't picture a more beautiful setting! Along with the sun shining and fresh air to breathe in, it's practically heaven as far as i'm concerned... ahh to dream...

summer at tiffany...

Recently I had the wonderful opportunity to read and review the book Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart, and I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed it!

Summer at Tiffany is a memoir about Marjorie Jacobson and her best friend, Marty Garrett set in New York, 1945. Coming from the University of Iowa hoping to find summer positions as shopgirls, they luckily find jobs as pages at Tiffany & Co. – becoming the first women ever to work on the sales floor! How amazing is that? Marjorie takes us back to the times when they experience celebrity visits (including Judy Garland!), pinched pennies for simple luxuries, and spend weekends going on romantic dates with midshipmen and exploring the city of New York – all with a certain charming simplicity. It's so intriguing to learn about the magic of Tiffany in it's early years, as well as such an important time in history, through the eyes of a young woman with so many opportunities ahead of her...

I highly recommend it for a fun and fascinating read, especially if you're a huge fan of Tiffany & Co. like myself. It just makes the company seem that much more special! But the book also reminded me of how important those little luxuries in life are and how easily we take things for granted nowadays... it was a great read!

If you'd like the chance to win a copy of Summer at Tiffany please leave a comment below and I will send one lucky person my brand new copy! Good luck... and please remember to leave your email address if it is not in your blogger profile (or if your profile is blocked to the public). I'll be drawing a winner this Friday, June 25th!

You can visit Marjorie's site here, and purchase your own copy of the book here... enjoy!
