What started as a means for soldiers in inclement weather, the classic trench coat has transformed into an iconic look that never goes out of style... long or short, beige or black, popped collar or lined with a plaid check, there's many a variation these days...
Apparently, the actual term trench coat was first dubbed by soldiers in the front line. Its original design was intended to replace the heavy serge greatcoat worn by British and French soldiers in the First World War and both Burberry and Aquascutum claim to have invented the coat, dating back to the 1850's... quite the history of a single piece of fashion if you ask me!
Pair it with jeans and a great pair of boots (high heeled or rain), a fall dress with opaque tights, or classic black flats and a short slip underneath (a la Kate Moss)... it always looks great, even with a thrown together outfit as you rush out the door. And if your office is as chilly as mine some days, it'll even look great indoors... making this classic coat worth the investment...
High to low... here's a few picks for fall...
Happy shopping...
