Kangana had started her career as a theatre artist in Delhi. In the year 2006, she made her Bollywood debut with the movie 'Gangster' whose story was written by Mahesh Bhatt. The flick was Directed by Anurag Basu and her co-stars were Emran Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja. The movie was a big hit and she won critical acclaimation for her performance. After that, the actress appeared in the movie 'Woh Lamhe'.

The movies like 'Life in a Metro' and 'Fashion' gave a special recognition to her. In fashion, she overshadowed the performance of other actresses of the movie like 'Priyanka Chopra' and 'Mughda Godse'. The movie fetch her awards like Filmfare Best supporting actress award and National Film Award for Best supporting actress.
